1. Objectives

WomenzShed is established in pursuit of the following objectives:

  • To advance the education of Members by providing formal and informal training opportunities.

  • To provide opportunities for Members to practice and share their knowledge and skills. 

  • To provide benefit to the community by improving the psychological well-being and physical health of Members through their participation in practical projects.

  • To benefit the community and other charitable organisations by undertaking practical projects as Membership, time and resources allow.

None of the above objects may provide pecuniary gain or profit to any Member.

2. Eligibility

Termly membership is available to wahine (women) aged 18 years and over and is conditional upon having attended a introductory skills WOMENZSHED workshop. 


3. Membership Applications

To become a Member of WomenzShed, a person must: 

  • Submit a completed application form confirming acceptance of these Terms and Conditions of Membership

  • Complete a health and safety induction including electrical equipment awareness

  • Pay the Membership fee 


4. Register of Members

WomenzShed shall maintain a register of all Members. The register shall record Members' contact details, the date on which they became a Member, and payment of subscription fees. All personal information shall be held by WomenzShed as per the Privacy Statement found on the website.  

5. Membership Safety

Safety of our Members is paramount.  With this in mind Members must abide by the following conditions of their Membership at all times:

  • Members must only operate power tools and machinery in the workshop when a WomenzShed Manager or nominated supervisor is present in the workshop. 

  • Members must only use powered tools and machinery after demonstrating competence in their use.  This must be recorded on the skills record which will be present at each Member ‘workout’ session.  

  • Members must seek guidance when unsure about machinery or tool use.


6. Membership Obligations

Members of WomenzShed are expected to:

  • act at all times in a manner consistent with and supportive of the WomenzShed kaupapa

  • be responsible for their own personal safety and safety of others who may be affected when operating machines or doing work in the workshops

  • provide reasonable assistance when requested by other Members

  • provide help to maintain the workshop eg through cleaning machines, tidying up areas after use by themselves and others, returning equipment to storage in a good state ready for use by the next Member.


7. Indemnity

Every Member joins WomenzShed and takes part in Shed activities entirely at her own risk and no member may make any claim against WomenzShed or any officer, Member, servant, or authorised agent thereof for any injury or loss suffered by any such member through her participation in the activities of WomenzShed notwithstanding that such injury or loss may have been caused by negligence of WomenzShed or of any officer, servant or authorised agent thereof.

8. Cessation of Membership

Membership shall cease in any of the following:

  1. Immediately upon giving notice of resignation to WomenzShed Management; or

  2. by failing to pay subscription fees within 1 week of when they fall due; or

  3. by suspension or expulsion pursuant to paragraph 9.

  4. by demise of the Member

9. Expulsion of Members

The Management may suspend or expel any Member if, in the opinion of the Management after due and proper enquiry during which the offending Member shall have been heard in her defence, such Member has been guilty of any conduct prejudicial to the interests of WomenzShed.

If a Member is to be expelled a special Management meeting must be called to which the Member to be expelled shall be invited to attend and make a written submission to refute the allegations.


The Member to be expelled must be given the opportunity to defend herself.


Within 5 days of the special meeting, the Management shall provide a decision as to the Member's status and the Member must be informed in writing of the decision.


10. Refunds of Membership Fees

Membership fees are usually non-refundable except under special circumstances.   Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to: serious illness, death, family crisis.

To request a refund a ‘Fees Credit/Refund Application for Extraordinary Circumstances’ form must be completed and submitted to WomenzShed Management.  This form is available upon request.

Any such refunds shall be at the sole discretion of WomenzShed.
